Lord Murugan Kartikeya

Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati had two sons- Lord Ganesh and Lord Skanda. Lord Skanda has many forms. In one of them, he is depicted with six faces and is known as Lord Shanmukha. His other popular names are Kartik, Karthikeyan/Kartikeyan, Murugan and Subrahmanya, the one who bestows his devotees with the knowledge of Brahman.



The peacock is considered sacred in Hindu mythology. The divine vehicle or vahana of Lord Muruga is a peacock named Paravani. It is believed that during a battle between Lord Muruga and a demon named Surapadman, the demon assumed the form of a big mango tree. This tree was split into two by Lord Muruga’s spear (vael). From one half emerged a cock and from the other a peacock. Lord Muruga took the peacock as His vahana and the cock as His flag symbol.


Lord Subramanya is one of the Hindu god, worshipped by most of the Hindu people in south India, Srilanka, Malaysia and Singapore. Lord Subramanya represents wisdom, strength, detachment, fame, wealth and divinity, which are signified by his six heads. Thai poosam is a Hindu religious festival dedicated to Lord Murugan that is celebrated by Tamil people.Thai Poosam falls on the full moon day in the Tamil month Thai (January - February). Poosam refers to a star at its highest point during the festival.

Marriage advice always stresses on how we should never take our fights to bed, sex should never be used to settles scores in a fight. That said, we must concede that when there are unresolved issues and nagging bubbles on our mind, activity between the sheets is the last thing you will feel inclined towards. So if you don’t want sex to become a weapon, make sure you resolve fights/disagreements before you head to bed.

Time: It is important to spend quality time with each, especially these days when most couples work five or six days a week. Every weekend you can’t be socializing with friends and relatives, you need to keep time aside for a special lunch or a late night movie together or to simply just watch television at home together.

Counterview: While it is important to spend time with each other, it is not always essential that you do everything together. Both of you need time out, so plan your boys/gals night out, catch up with a friend for lunch or dinner, party without your spouse. Do your own thing every once in while, you need to.

Share: Gone are the days when men and women played gender-specific roles in marriage, the husband was the sole bread-winner in the family and the housewife by definition took care of the home and children.

When both partners enjoy the benefits of a double-income household, the onus of domestic chores also lies on both of them. Whether it be cooking, doing dishes or helping change diapers make sure you share responsibilities and work together to stop stressing over to-do lists. It can be overwhelming for an individual and can later breed contempt when you are caught in the same routine without any help.

Decisions: Discuss, even if both of you don’t completely agree, make sure there is some consensus on the many decisions you take every day. There is nothing as annoying as individualistic decision-making in a marriage. Whether it is the choice of a restaurant when you are dining out or the colour of your first car, make sure there is some sort of agreement with your partner. If you have a strong reason to refute, try to show them a valid reason for why you are differing rather than stubbornly sticking to your point.

Finance: It’s all about money honey! Well, that might not be completely true but it’s good to have clarity in money matters in a marriage. If you follow the “Your money is my money and my money is your money” rule in your marriage and if that works for you, awesome! However, there is a need to be particular about expenses, savings and clarity in planning your finances. The financial burden should never fall on just one person and no matter what the disparities in the respective incomes are, there is a need to budget expenditure and prepare for eventualities.

Disclaimer: I don’t claim to be a relationship expert but we all learn our own lessons and a little fine tuning can go a long way in making your married life fun. Like I said it all begins with understanding that each of us as individuals react very differently to every situation depending on our unique personalities. The trick lies in not always trying to mould the other person to your needs but trying to work out the best possible situation.

Marriage doesn’t come with a guarantee card; no matter how many right questions you ask and right things you do there is always a chance that something might go wrong. But if you work towards it, it might be that one thing in your life that is consistent and that keeps you going. I have been a part of two such celebrations and there is no greater feeling than standing with your partner celebrating 50 or 60 years of togetherness and wondering how you managed to hold on despite all the odds and challenges.

    3. ஆவியில் எளிமையுள்ளவர்கள் பாக்கியவான்கள்; பரலோகராஜ்யம் அவர்களுடையது.

    18. வானமும் பூமியும் ஒழிந்துபோனாலும், நியாயப்பிரமாணத்திலுள்ளதெல்லாம் நிறைவேறுமளவும், அதில் ஒரு சிறு எழுத்தாகிலும், ஒரு எழுத்தின் உறுப்பாகிலும் ஒழிந்து போகாது என்று மெய்யாகவே உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

    19. ஆகையால், இந்தக் கற்பனைகள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் சிறிதொன்றையாகிலும் மீறி, அவ்விதமாய் மனுஷருக்குப் போதிக்கிறவன் பரலோகராஜ்யத்தில் எல்லாரிலும் சிறியவன் என்னப்படுவான்; இவைகளைக் கைக்கொண்டு போதிக்கிறவன் பரலோகராஜ்யத்தில் பெரியவன் என்னப்படுவான்.

    20. வேதபாரகர் பரிசேயர் என்பவர்களுடைய நீதியிலும் உங்கள் நீதி அதிகமாயிராவிட்டால், பரலோகராஜ்யத்தில் பிரவேசிக்கமாட்டீர்கள் என்று உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

    21. கொலை செய்யாதிருப்பாயாக என்பதும், கொலைசெய்கிறவன் நியாயத்தீர்ப்புக்கு ஏதுவாயிருப்பான் என்பதும், பூர்வத்தாருக்கு உரைக்கப்பட்டதென்று கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

    22. நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்; தன் சகோதரனை நியாயமில்லாமல் கோபித்துக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் நியாயத்தீர்ப்புக்கு ஏதுவாயிருப்பான்; தன் சகோதரனை வீணனென்று சொல்லுகிறவன் ஆலோசனை சங்கத்தீர்ப்புக்கு ஏதுவாயிருப்பான்; மூடனே என்று சொல்லுகிறவன் எரிநரகத்திற்கு ஏதுவாயிருப்பான்.

    24. அங்கேதானே பலிபீடத்தின் முன் உன் காணிக்கையை வைத்துவிட்டுப் போய், முன்பு உன் சகோதரனோடே ஒப்புரவாகி, பின்பு வந்து உன் காணிக்கையைச் செலுத்து.

    25. எதிராளி உன்னை நியாயாதிபதியினிடத்தில் ஒப்புக்கொடாமலும், நியாயாதிபதி உன்னைச் சேவகனிடத்தில் ஒப்புக்கொடாமலும், நீ சிறைச்சாலையில் வைக்கப்படாமலும் இருக்கும்படியாக, நீ உன் எதிராளியோடு வழியில் இருக்கும்போதே சீக்கிரமாய் அவனுடனே நல்மனம் பொருந்து.

    26. பொருந்தாவிட்டால், நீ ஒரு காசும் குறைவின்றிக் கொடுத்துத் தீர்க்குமட்டும் அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து புறப்படமாட்டாய் என்று, மெய்யாகவே உனக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

    27. விபசாரஞ் செய்யாதிருப்பாயாக என்பது பூர்வத்தாருக்கு உரைக்கப்பட்டதென்று கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

    28. நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் ஒரு ஸ்திரீயை இச்சையோடு பார்க்கிற எவனும் தன் இருதயத்தில் அவளோடே விபசாரஞ்செய்தாயிற்று.

    29. உன் வலது கண் உனக்கு இடறலுண்டாக்கினால், அதைப் பிடுங்கி எறிந்து போடு; உன் சரீரம் முழுவதும் நரகத்தில் தள்ளப்படுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், உன் அவயவங்களில் ஒன்று கெட்டுப்போவது உனக்கு நலமாயிருக்கும்.

    30. உன் வலது கை உனக்கு இடறலுண்டாக்கினால், அதைத் தறித்து எறிந்து போடு; உன் சரீரம் முழுவதும் நரகத்தில் தள்ளப்படுவதைப்பார்க்கிலும், உன் அவயவங்களில் ஒன்று கெட்டுப்போவது உனக்கு நலமாயிருக்கும்.

    31. தன் மனைவியைத் தள்ளிவிடுகிற எவனும் தள்ளுதற்சீட்டை அவளுக்கு கொடுக்கக்கடவன் என்று உரைக்கப்பட்டது.

    32. நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்; வேசித்தன முகாந்தரத்தினாலொழிய தன் மனைவியைத் தள்ளிவிடுகிறவன், அவளை விபசாரஞ்செய்யப்பண்ணுகிறவனாயிருப்பான்; அப்படித் தள்ளிவிடப்பட்டவளை விவாகம் பண்ணுகிறவனும் விபசாரஞ்செய்கிறவனாயிருப்பான்.

    33. அன்றியும், பொய்யாணையிடாமல் உன் ஆணைகளைக் கர்த்தர் முன்னிலையாய்ச் செலுத்துவாயாக என்று பூர்வத்தாருக்கு உரைக்கப்பட்டதென்று கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

    34. நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன் பரிச்சேதம் சத்தியம்பண்ணவேண்டாம்; வானத்தின் பேரில் சத்தியம்பண்ணவேண்டாம், அது தேவனுடைய சிங்காசனம்.

    35. பூமியின் பேரிலும் சத்தியம்பண்ணவேண்டாம், அது தேவனுடைய பாதபடி; எருசலேமின் பேரிலும் சத்தியம்பண்ணவேண்டாம், அது மகாராஜாவின் நகரம்.

    36. உன் சிரசின் பேரிலும் சத்தியம்பண்ணவேண்டாம், அதின் ஒரு மயிரையாவது வெண்மையாக்கவும் கறுப்பாக்கவும் உன்னால் கூடாதே.

    37. உள்ளதை உள்ளதென்றும், இல்லதை இல்லதென்றும் சொல்லுங்கள்; இதற்கு மிஞ்சினது தீமையினால் உண்டாயிருக்கும்.

    38. கண்ணுக்குக் கண், பல்லுக்கு பல் என்று உரைக்கப்பட்டதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

    39. நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்; தீமையோடு எதிர்த்து நிற்கவேண்டாம்; ஒருவன் உன்னை வலது கன்னத்தில் அறைந்தால், அவனுக்கு மறு கன்னத்தையும் திருப்பிக் கொடு.

    40. உன்னோடு வழக்காடி உன் வஸ்திரத்தை எடுத்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டுமென்றிருக்கிறவனுக்கு உன் அங்கியையும் விட்டுவிடு.

    41. ஒருவன் உன்னை ஒரு மைல் தூரம் வரப் பலவந்தம் பண்ணினால், அவனோடு இரண்டு மைல் தூரம் போ.

    42. உன்னிடத்தில் கேட்கிறவனுக்குக் கொடு, உன்னிடத்தில் கடன் வாங்க விரும்புகிறவனுக்கு முகங்கோணாதே.

    43. உனக்கடுத்தவனைச் சிநேகித்து, உன் சத்துருவைப் பகைப்பாயாக என்று சொல்லப்பட்டதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

    44. நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன், உங்கள் சத்துருக்களைச் சிநேகியுங்கள்; உங்களைச் சபிக்கிறவர்களை ஆசீர்வதியுங்கள்; உங்களைப் பகைக்கிறவர்களுக்கு நன்மை செய்யுங்கள்; உங்களை நிந்திக்கிறவர்களுக்காகவும் உங்களைத் துன்பப்படுத்துகிறவர்களுக்காகவும் ஜெபம் பண்ணுங்கள்.

    45. இப்படிச் செய்வதினால் நீங்கள் பரலோகத்திலிருக்கிற உங்கள் பரம பிதாவுக்கு புத்திரராயிருப்பீர்கள்; அவர் தீயோர் மேலும் நல்லோர் மேலும் தமது சூரியனை உதிக்கப்பண்ணி, நீதியுள்ளவர்கள் மேலும் அநீதியுள்ளவர்கள் மேலும் மழையைப் பெய்யப்பண்ணுகிறார்.

    46. உங்களைச் சிநேகிக்கிறவர்களையே நீங்கள் சிநேகிப்பீர்களானால், உங்களுக்குப் பலன் என்ன? ஆயக்காரரும் அப்படியே செய்கிறார்கள் அல்லவா?

    47. உங்கள் சகோதரரைமாத்திரம் வாழ்த்துவீர்களானால், நீங்கள் விசேஷித்துச் செய்கிறது என்ன? ஆயக்காரரும் அப்படிச்செய்கிறார்களல்லவா?

    48. ஆகையால், பரலோகத்திலிருக்கிற உங்கள் பிதா பூரண சற்குணராயிருக்கிறதுபோல, நீங்களும் பூரண சற்குணராயிருக்கக்கடவீர்கள்.

The Meaning of Forgiveness

Forgiveness in one sense means being absolved of our sins. However real forgiveness means more than just the forgiveness of our wrong actions. Divine forgiveness involves illumination. Our ignorance becomes not just temporarily absolved but transformed. Speaking on divine forgiveness Sri Chinmoy says:

"Our human mind may call it forgiveness, but God is not thinking about our inner and outer misdeeds. He just wants us to raise our consciousness so that we will increase our receptivity and oneness with Him."

Forgiveness of ourselves.

Sometimes it is easy to forgive others, but it can be more difficult to forgive ourselves. When we do something wrong we can feel terrible and, consciously or unconsciously, we cherish an idea of guilt. It can be hard to let go of these feelings and emotions. However cherishing a notion of guilt does not help us in any way. The Indian spiritual Master Sri Ramakrishna said something quite revealing.

"The wretch who constantly says, "I am bound, I am bound', only succeeds in being bound. He who says day and night, 'I am a sinner, I am a sinner' verily becomes a sinner."

A better attitude is to focus on doing the right thing. True we have made a mistake, but if we have done the wrong thing there is no reason why can't change our behaviour and do the right thing. We should not dwell on the past, but look forward and concentrate on the right path of action.

Real forgiveness means to forget.

To be sincere in our forgiveness of others we should not even remember the incident. Sometimes forgiveness can be conditional, we shall tell somebody we have forgiven them, but maybe later we will bring it up to use it against them. This is not real forgiveness. Only when we do not think about the experience have we really forgiven others.

When we forgive others, we should not feel that we are just doing somebody else a favour; through forgiving others we are helping ourselves immensely. By remembering the misdeeds of others we live in the critical and judgemental mind. However through forgiveness we learn to appreciate the good qualities of others. Through forgiveness we become aware of our extended reality. If someone does something wrong a good attitude to take is. "I could quite easily have done that myself". Even if we wouldn't have done this action, it makes us more humble.

On the cross Jesus Christ uttered an immortal utterance

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

This is a supreme example of forgiveness. It was Jesus Christ's sense of oneness with others that enabled him to make such a lofty statement. He identified with their limited perspective but at the same time he didn't want those living in ignorance to remain bound. His only aspiration was for everyone to transcend their ignorance and see the world from a Divine perspective.
